Vimeo has relaunched and redesigned their video editing app – Cameo by Vimeo. Enhance your summer vacay clips into gorgeous HD videos – all on the phone in your pocket. Powerful editing software lets you trim clips, adjust audio, and rapidly render files. It’s seriously easy.
Apply one of 8 different themes and add a stylized font for the title.
Along with the easy-to-use editing toggles, Cameo lets you take audio out of clips by simply clicking on the speaker button below the clips. And, you can add the audio back to the clips by clicking the same button as well as boost the audio so you can hear it above any background music, if you choose to use music in your video.
Browse the music library to add to the video with choices from cinematic, to pop, to R&B.
Cameo is only available on iOS, but an Android version will roll out soon.
Real Rock Festival
With artifacts and petroglyphs dating more than 10,000 years old, Ridgecrest, California, just 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, is rapidly becoming known as California’s newest cultural mecca.
The 2nd Annual Petroglyph Festival celebrates the area’s historic petroglyph rock art on November 7 and 8. Bus tours to the protected 10,000 year-old rock art will be open to the public through the Maturango Museum.
The area’s most popular areas for visiting petroglyphs, Big and Little Petroglyph Canyons, are situated on property of the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. The two canyons are designated U.S. National Historic Landmarks. In 2001, they were incorporated into a larger National Historic Landmark District, called the Coso Rock Art District. Because the area is protected being on federal land, it has the greatest concentration of petroglyphs in the Western Hemisphere and has largely been left undisturbed for thousands of years.
Over 15,000 visitors from all over the world are expected to learn about the rich history of the area while enjoying an Inter-Tribal Powwow and Cherokee Hog Fry, among many of the over 15 major events over the weekend. A wine walk is set to return with more than triple the number of wineries from 2014, in addition to a new beer garden. The weekend events will be filmed for a PBS special with plans to air in spring 2016.

Sound of Silence in Boston
Near bustling Harvard Square, monks provide a silent escape in which to unplug and relax. The Society of Saint John the Evangelist, an order of Episcopal brothers, has a guesthouse at its monastery. Upstairs guest rooms – once the living quarters for the brothers – are spartan. Each door is labeled with the name of a saint or apostle, and opens into a narrow room with the bare essentials: a single bed, a desk and little else. Private bathrooms are down the hall.
Behind the stone walls, idle chatter is taboo. Cell phone calls are to be taken outside, or not at all. Signs posted throughout the house ask guests to respect the quiet.
The monastery has large and elegant common rooms and a library. In season guests can enjoy the patio garden. Guests are not required to attend worship services in the chapel, but of course can join the brothers. Before bedtime, guests can observe the brothers as they meet to chant their evening prayers.
Visits can last an hour or for days. A bill is slipped under the door. The suggested fee is $100 for an overnight stay; $50 for students — including meals and the occasional ‘talking meals’ with the brothers. Reservations required for overnight stays.
Sitting along a crook of the Charles River, the monastery is a physical marvel. The chapel, designed by renowned New England architect Ralph Adams Cram, is an echo of early Christian basilicas, with interior pillars and arches, marble floors and a stone canopy stooping over the altar. Notable guests drawn to the monastery include poet T.S. Eliot, who was a regular at worship services while he taught at Harvard in 1931.
