If you’re tired of paying a big cable bill each month, you may find that cutting the cord and subscribing to Fubo (formerly fuboTV) can be a great money-saving solution in 2024.

This live TV streaming service is one of the options for people looking to leave the cable company behind for good. Many people have heard of popular services such as Sling TV and YouTube TV, but you may not know that Fubo also has a menu of the top cable channels and sports networks for a similar price.

I decided to download the app on my devices and sign up for a subscription to check it out. In this article, I’ll walk you through what I learned and tell you everything you need to know about this streaming TV option.

This article was updated in January 2024 and I review it once per month. Detailed notes on all updates can be found here.

January 2024 Updates

Latest Fubo Updates
  • Fubo announced a 2024 price increase. English language packages increase $5 per month effective January 10, 2024. Additionally, Regional Sports Fees were increased by $1 per month.
  • Fubo will be introducing unlimited cloud DVR hours for all packages in 2024. The exact date for this addition had not been announced as of January 11, 2024.
  • As of January 11, 2024, Fubo is offering a discount for the first month of its Latino package. The Spanish-language subscription can be had for $24.99 for a month. The regular price is $32.99.
  • Fubo introduced changes to its app interface in October 2023. These changes include quicker load times and more use-friendly fast-forward and rewind capabilities.
  • Most CBS affiliates have returned to Fubo as of August 2023. There was a carriage dispute that left many Fubo users major markets without the local channel in March 2023.
  • Bally Sports RSNs were added to the platform in February 2023. This announcement was a major win for sports fans, but it will make the service more expensive. The impacted ZIP codes will be subject to a mandatory Regional Sports Fee from Fubo that ranges from $12 to $15 per month. That drives the minimum monthly cost for Fubo up to $92 in some ZIP codes.

What Is Fubo? Team Clark Reviews the Live TV Streaming Service

For a starting price of $80 per month, a Fubo subscription provides access to more than 100 popular broadcast and cable channels. There is no contract or cable box required. You can stream content live or on demand from your television, phone, tablet or computer.

You may see that $80 monthly price and think to yourself, “That’s more expensive than YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV. What makes Fubo worth skipping those options?”

I’ll get into answering that question with this article, but what you should know right away is that Fubo’s “Pro” package offers a large helping of sports content that may attract the sports nuts in your household. But Fubo is not one-dimensional: It provides access to many popular non-sports channels as well.

And for those who want even more, Fubo has “Elite” and “Premier” tier subscriptions that give you additional channels for $90 and $10 per month, respectively.

Team Clark has tested Fubo and the other major live TV streaming services. Read on to learn what you need to know before you sign up!

Table of Contents:

1. What Channels Do You Get With Fubo?

If you’re considering a Fubo subscription, you’re going to have three base channel packages from which to choose: Pro, Elite and Premier.

Fubo prides itself on offering a large menu of sports channels, so you’ll find all of the professional sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) and college sports leagues (SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12) represented by their networks as well as the ESPN and FS1 families of channels.

The Pro package, at $80 per month, offers popular channels including Disney Channel, Fox News, MSNBC and USA in addition to many of the sports channels I mentioned above.

Upgrading to the Elite package, which costs $90 per month, will unlock more sports networks such as ESPNews and ESPNU. It also is the first tier that includes 4K broadcasts at no additional cost.

If you need more options, Fubo introduced a Premier package in January 2023 that offers more than 200 channels, including some of the service’s add-on packages, for $100 per month.

Many sports fans will be able to find their Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) on Fubo. However, you are likely to be subjected to a mandatory Regional Sports Fee if you live in an impacted zip code. This could tack on an additional $12-15 to your monthly bill.

Fubo offers access to local ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX affiliates with all three packages, but you’ll want to verify that all four are available in your viewing area. If they aren’t, you could use these alternative methods to access local channels.

To see if local channels and regional sports networks are available where you live, check your ZIP code on Fubo’s website.

Fubo also features the Latino package, which is a standalone subscription at $33 per month. It includes more than 30 Spanish language channels and 250 cloud DVR hours to go along with it.

Below is a comparison of the Pro, Elite and Premier channel packages. If you want to compare Fubo’s channel lineup to other streaming TV services, see our side-by-side chart or use our live TV streaming channel tool.

Add-On Channel Packages

If you don’t see a channel you want on one of the above base packages, don’t give up just yet.

For an additional fee, you can pay for the following add-on packages that are tailored to specific channel interests.

The Sports Plus add-on package includes the popular NFL RedZone Channel.

International Channel Packages

In addition to those add-on packages, Fubo subscribers can enjoy entertainment from around the globe thanks to some international package offerings.

Other packages available at an additional monthly cost include:

  • Latino Plus
  • RAI Italia
  • Portuguese Plus
  • Entretenimiento Plus
  • TV5MONDE (French)
  • CONMEBOL y Más

Premium Channels and Services

In addition to add-on channel packages, Fubo also offers premium subscription services.

For example, you can pay $9 per month for a STARZ subscription as a part of your monthly Fubo bill. That content would be available to stream on your Fubo app alongside the content from your base subscription.

Here’s a sampling of the premium channels or services that are available through Fubo:

  • STARZ
  • EPIX
  • AMC Premiere

Latino Package

If you’re looking only for Spanish language content, Fubo has a standalone product called the Latino Package (it is not an add-on).

For $33 per month, you can get access to 33 Spanish-language channels. Again, this does not require that you have a Pro or Elite package.

You’ll get access to sports channels such as ESPN Deportes and FOX Deportes as well as popular options like Univision, Unimas and Nat Geo Mundo.

It comes with three simultaneous streams and 250 hours of cloud DVR storage.

2. Does Fubo Include Cloud DVR?

Fubo offers cloud DVR functionality as a part of its perks for the Pro and Elite packages.

A cloud-based DVR allows users to record any live programs and watch them at a later time. This means you’ll be able to record all your favorite TV shows, movies or sporting events and then watch them at your leisure.

The Pro, Elite and Premier channel packages come with 1000 hours of cloud DVR storage included. That’s going to give you access to additional channels for a slightly lower price increase than the DVR upgrade alone.

You can fast forward through your DVR content with Fubo without commercial interruption. That’s a big plus.

3. How Do You Stream Fubo?

One of the biggest perks of cutting the cord and opting into a service like Fubo is the variety of ways in which you can enjoy the content.

Not only can you move seamlessly from device to device, but you can also take your recorded content with you thanks to the portability of the cloud DVR.

You can stream Fubo on your smartphone, tablet, computer or your TV. All you need is high-speed internet access to enjoy.

If you’re planning to watch on your television, you’ll either need a smart TV that has compatibility with Fubo or a streaming device like a Roku or Amazon Fire TV stick.

Here’s a list of compatible devices according to Fubo’s website:

  • Android smartphones and tablets
  • Apple smartphones and tablets (iPhone, iPad, etc.)
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Android TV
  • Android Smart TVs
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast with Google TV
  • Roku
  • Samsung Smart TVs
  • Xbox gaming devices

4. Can a Family Share Fubo?

Another big concern for cord cutters is ensuring that the entire household is able to enjoy watching television the same way that they have with cable.

Fubo shines in this area as well — without charging you for a box to use on each TV.

If you subscribe to the Pro, Elite or Premier package you’ll get unlimited simultaneous streams (with up to 10 simultaneous streams at home).

And there are six accounts included with a Fubo membership. So everyone in the household can get their own unique cloud DVR storage spaces and personal settings for consumption.

Pros and Cons for Fubo

A few years ago, Fubo may have been seen as a niche live TV streaming service that catered to sports fans.

But it’s clear that Fubo has worked to put its channel menu and functionality on par with the live TV streaming leaders like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV.

The combination of its sports-oriented content and well-rounded additions creates an attractive YouTube TV alternative for some sports fans. But it may come at a premium price.

This service is not for everyone, though. If you’re not worried about access to live sports, value live TV streaming services, such as Sling TV (as low as $40 per month) and Philo ($25 per month), offer a cheaper option for your wallet.

Before you sign up, review Fubo’s channel lineup and compare it to YouTube TV, Hulu Live and Sling TV.
