TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Mama Mia Film Location
Universal Pictures is set to premiere the film ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ on July 20. After viewing the film you’ll no doubt be curious about the film’s setting. It’s not Greece this time around, but Vis island, off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast – the farthest inhabited island from the Croatian mainland.
Getting there is not so easy. First, get to the city of Split – then take a 30-minute taxi ride to the port and from there it’s a 2-hour ferry ride (there’s a sunbathing top deck to relax). The Jadrolinija ferry docks in the tiny capital Vis town, which sits in the middle of a horseshoe-shaped bay. The shore is fringed with quaint stone buildings and there’s not a high-rise hotel in sight. The bay is separated into two small towns – Vis and Kut – about 20 minutes’ walk apart.

Book an Airbnb property on the island. The many tasteful homes and apartments rent for less than $100 a night.
If you go, use this one word: Pomalo – it’s a common greeting but also means relax, take it easy, no rush, maybe tomorrow. And it’s absolutely fitting. Nothing happens quickly on Vis.

BritRail Passes
From London, visit famous places including Oxford, Bath, Windsor Castle, Salisbury Cathedral, and the beautiful Cornwall coast with a BritRail South West Rail Pass. There are 2 types of BritRail South West pass available – a Consecutive days pass or the Flexi pass.
A Consecutive pass is valid for a set number of days in a row – 3, 4 or 8 days. For example, if you start using a 4 day pass on a Monday, it will be valid until Thursday. This pass will suit you if you’re taking several day trips from a central base and want to see a lot of different places in a short amount of time.
With a Flexi pass, your travel days do not need to be consecutive. You can travel for a set number of days over a period of 1 calendar month. For example, if you start using a 4 day pass on August 1 you then have 3 remaining days that you can use your pass within 30 days. This pass will suit you if you want to stop in different places and relax for a few days before moving on and want the freedom to change your travel plans last minute.
An adult (age 26-59) 3-Day Standard Class ticket costs $142.50; $121.50 (60+); $72 (ages 5-15) and free for under age 5. A Youth ticket (16-25) is $92.50.
A 4-Day Pass is $174 adults; $148 seniors; $87 children and $113.50 for a youth. An 8-Day pass is $253 adults; $215.50 seniors; $127 children and $164.50 youth pass.
