TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Universal’s Newest Ride
The newest ride at Universal Orlando Resort, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ will officially grand open on April 6. The attraction will give guests the ultimate ‘Tonight Show’ experience as they get up close and personal with the show’s most hilarious segments before taking off on a wild and action-packed race through New York City and all the way to the moon and back, encountering iconic landmarks from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building to everything in between.
To celebrate the attraction’s Grand Opening, ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ will take the show on the road with tapings from Universal Orlando Resort from April 3-6. Additional details on celebrity guests and how to become a part of the show audience will be released over time.

The attraction is the first at Universal Studios Florida to feature an all-new Virtual Line experience — accessible via the Official Universal Orlando Resort App or at kiosks located outside the attraction entrance.

AA’s Basic Economy Fares
American Airlines has formally introduced its long-expected Basic Economy fare class, saying the fare type will first go up for sale on February 10 in select markets. AA says Basic Economy fares would gradually expand to more markets but said that they would not be rolled to all of the flights in its system.
All three of the nation’s largest airlines have now introduced their own versions of a basic economy fare. Like at United (to debut soon), fliers buying American’s Basic Economy fare will only be able to bring onboard carry-ons small enough to fit under the seat in front of them. No overhead bin luggage may be brought on board. Larger carry-ons such as a rollerboard bag must be checked at the ticket counter for the applicable checked baggage charge. Basic Economy customers who bring more than an under-seat personal item to the gate will incur regular checked baggage charges plus a $25 gate service charge per bag.
Delta Air Lines, the first to introduce a version of basic economy, does not restrict carry-ons — at least for now.
American’s Basic Economy fares also will not allow changes — not even for a fee — and will make fliers among the last to board the plane. Seats will be assigned at check-in or can be selected within 48 hours of departure for a fee.
Worth noting: Customers traveling in a group, including families, will not be able to sit together.
United Airlines hopes to debut its Basic Economy fares in Minneapolis and tickets could go on sale as soon as April. The Basic fares are likely to expand to the rest of United’s domestic system and to its Caribbean flights in the summer.
Airlines expect to generate as much as $250 million this year from seat segmentation such as Basic Economy, $500 million next year and up to $1 billion by 2020.

The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
