This Week’s Travel Photo Gallery

About this photo: This is from our recent trip to Phoenix where we visited the Desert Botanical Gardens. A glass exhibit is currently being featured throughout the gardens.
Best deal found: Stayed at the Hilton Tapatio Resort that averages $200 for $152. After reading a lot of Trip Advisor comments, I see I could have probably have gotten it for $100 or so w/ Priceline but it was a great facility and we had a great time.

Destination: Rome, Italy
About this photo: This was taken at a very large Rally for Peace (Pace) we’d stumbled across while walking around Rome.
Best deal found: Public transportation in Rome is very easy to use–you can save lots and really see how the locals live. Definitely use the subway to get back to the airport in 20 minutes. No need for a cab.

Destination: Ephesus Turkey
About this photo: Ephesus Turkey is the largest known city that has been unearthed. As of now only 15% of the city has been uncovered. The largest amphitheater stands there. Many apostles also wrote part of the bible here. About 5 minutes from Ephesus is Virgin Mary’s last known residence. She was entrusted to apostle john. This picture is of the temple of Artemis… one of the 7 wonders of the world. Its beautiful and amazing the smaller building to the right has carvings about Ceaser. Its amazing this place and if you have not visited this area you must. It will humble your thoughts on beauty.

Best deal found: Thanks to Clark, we found a RT from Atlanta to San Jose, CR for $335 total! Entrance to the National park to see the animals was great! Personal tours from a local guide are easy to get and a good deal. If looking for souvenirs, go just down the road to the small town of Quepos.

Destination: Erie Canal – Lockport, NY
About this photo: I grew up in the Buffalo, NY area, but had never visited the Erie Canal. My sisters took my husband and me to take the Erie Canal Cruise. It is very historic and a pleasant ride. I never realized how close I was so many years ago. I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in American History.
Best deal found: The cruise was about an hour long and the cost was not too much, about $12.00 per person. The cruise is seasonal; so check into the Erie Canal Historical Society to find out the dates of operation. The tour guide was full of information.

Destination: Mahe’, Seychelles Islands, Indian Ocean
About this photo: One of hundreds I took while working on this beautiful tropical island 1965-1970 for RCA. The U.S. had a satellite tracking facility there operated by Philco/Ford and RCA provided communications support for it. I met my wife and married while there. We returned again in Sept. 2004. It was difficult to pick just one picture to submit as all are gorgeous views. Mahe is an ancient granite mountain range rising out of the ocean and is said to be the dividing line when Africa and India continents drifted apart. Originally French, then British Colonial and now independent. Some really nice resorts, nice diving, trips to outer islands, great varieties of Creole food, seafood, curries, etc. The Seychelles is a high end expensive treat. We often joke that the visitors are mostly the “Newly Wed, Nearly Dead” crowd. Many famous move stars visit here, Arab multi millionaires yacht down from Dubai etc. Rate of exchange officially is poor. Unofficially much better.
Best deal found: Go to the nearby Island of La Digue, walk and bike and enjoy the scrumptious island cookouts on the beach and at some of the better resorts. The food and scenery is delightful. Unfortunately, due to the rate of exchange, souvenirs are dear anywhere you go.

Destination: Hoover Dam
About this photo: Fox Car Rental was half the price than some of the well known rental companies. The airplane ticket is less if you fly in smaller airports. We flew to San Diego CA and took a car to the Hoover Dam (made other stops in between) then drove to San Francisco to see Alcatraz and flew back to Orlando from San Jose. In between we made other stops. We packed a lot of traveling in a short week. We also rented the smallest car which was cheaper and uses less gas.
Best deal found: The Dam is overwhelming when you see it the first time. My son (in the picture) could not get enough of the view.

Destination: Cruise – Cozumel
About this photo: Taken in Cozumel, Mexico this past week during our spring break cruise on NCL. While shopping my feathery friends “posed” in unison. It was perfect. Our cruise was Miami-Roatan-Belize City-Cozumel.
Best deal found: Always love to get the large bottle of Kahlua in Mexico. It is so much less expensive than the U.S.
