Can’t Get There From Here?
A new and free mobile app of Seattle’s landmark Space Needle has launched, giving users a bird’s eye 600 feet above the city. Space Needle 360º gives users the experience of standing on the Space Needle’s spire, walking on the Space Needle’s Halo (outermost ring), and flying around Seattle in a seaplane – all in spherical videos and images. The app is among the first of its kind, and one of the first to be put out by a major landmark. The experiences filmed for Space Needle 360º were done so using an array of robotic camera heads and 360-degree video cameras. The captured content was then compiled into one single spherical image or 360-degree video creating immersive experiences. No matter where guests look with the VR app and viewer, they can see in every direction as if they were there. Have a peek at the 1-minute YouTube video.
Space Needle 360º is available through Apple and Google Play stores.
To get the full, immersive experience, guests should use a Google VR Cardboard Viewer (seriously cardboard!), available in retail outlets for about $10. Or, make one yourself. Get instructions at Google. The Space Needle opened for the 1962 World’s Fair.

Visit a World Wonder
Groupon Getaways offers stays at the Marriott Gateway on the Falls at Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada, bundled with winery tours and tasting at five wineries, $25 Milestones Grill and Bar Credit (with beautiful falls view), $40 Serenity Spa credit, and in-room WiFi with prices starting from $107.03 per night on stays through October 31. Choose from city view or falls view double-queen room (up to three kids 17 or younger stay free). Falls-view rooms provide close-up peeks of the Canadian Horseshoe and American Falls; city-view rooms face the town. On site amenities include an indoor pool and whirlpool, fitness center, a Starbucks and WiFi in public areas. This AAA Four Diamond-winning hotel has an Expedia rating of 93% based on 1,738 reviews.
At Niagara Falls, considered by many to be one of the world’s seven natural wonders, water thunders downward from a height of nearly 200 feet, crashing onto craggy boulders below. The falls straddle the border between Canada and the United States, with segments located in both New York and Ontario, but the Canadian side of the Niagara River is universally hailed as the finest vantage point to take in all three of Niagara Falls’ photogenic brinks: American, Bridal Veil, and Horseshoe Falls.
Hornblower cruises ferry raincoat-clad passengers around the base of the falls from April through October, depending on the river’s ice conditions. Year-round, Journey Behind the Falls grants a glimpse behind the curtain of Horseshoe Falls – board an elevator that descends 150 feet into the bedrock, then stand at an observation deck steps away from the cascading water.
While the falls are the main attractions, the renowned wineries in the nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake region come a close second. This deal includes a package of five wine tours: Trius, Peller Estates, Jackson Triggs, Thirty Bench, and Inniskillin. One of the oldest wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Inniskillin gained world recognition with their icewines, harvested only when the temperatures dip below minus 8 degrees Celsius (about 17º F). Options include tours of these wineries, as well as Jackson Triggs, Canada’s most awarded winery.
See Groupon Getaways for additional details and to book.
Note: The nearest airport to Niagara Falls is Buffalo, New York, or about a 30 minute drive. Next closest is Rochester, 90-minutes by car to the falls.
