TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Cool Travel Apps
Have in-flight Wi-Fi? Get Inflighto, a moving map app created by pilots that pinpoints where you are located on a digital map during your flight. The app identifies geographic highlights below and how soon you’ll arrive to your destination airport. Inflighto is a lot like a regular flight tracker (the ones you can watch on your embedded TV screens), but with much more data.

______

TripCase is a handy app that helps you put together your trip itinerary – such as your flight info, lodging details, car rental, tours and other categories all in one place. Add components of a trip to your account by forwarding confirmation emails to [email protected] or by manually adding the information directly to your account. As changes occur to flight schedules, get a notice on your smartphone.
______

The TVFoodMaps app directs you to nearby restaurants that have been featured on TV shows. There are over 4,000 restaurants across the country that have been filmed, from greasy spoon joints, diners, drive-ins, dives to elegant dining experiences. Search by a show, state/city, or near me.

Fly Free to NT
Travelers flying from the United States can now continue on from coastal Australian cities to the Northern Territory (NT) for free. Tourism Northern Territory will cover the cost of a one-way flight from an Australian gateway city to Darwin, Alice Springs or Uluru (Ayers Rock). A minimum two-night stay is required. One-way airfare from Darwin to Sydney, for example, average about $85.
To qualify for the Fly Free to the Outback campaign, U.S.-based travelers must book their Australian vacation through one of 11 participating wholesale operators. The booking window is open through July 31 for travel finished by December 31.
U.S.-based travelers tend to stay on the east coast of the continent but can now experience the real Australia including Darwin, the gateway to the deep lush tropics of the coastal Top End – or the iconic Red Centre, home to Australia’s most famous outback town Alice Springs. Another choice is to the World Heritage-listed Uluru (Ayers Rock) and one of the world’s oldest living cultures dating back over 50,000 years.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
