If you’re a fan of The Gap, Old Navy or any of the other four stores operated by Gap Inc., you should know about their loyalty program called Bright Rewards. When you sign up, you earn rewards points every time you make a purchase and those points can be redeemed for cash credit once you accumulate enough of them.
Things to know about the Bright Rewards program
Bright Rewards was launched in limited markets in 2017, but the loyalty program is now available in some form nationwide. In August of 2018, the company announced that it had already signed up a million members.
Where is the Bright Rewards program currently available?
The program offers rewards points that can be redeemed to credit to shoppers at six stores: Gap, Gap Factory, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory, and Athleta. It is currently available at Athleta, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory, and Old Navy in California, and the Atlanta and Dallas-Fort Worth areas. Bright is also currently available at Gap, and Gap Factory in the continental United States and Hawaii.
How does the Bright Rewards program work?
There are two major components of Bright Rewards: one that depends on you using a branded credit card and another that rewards you simply for buying things in the stores. Paying with the branded cards will net you five points per dollar spent, while program members who use another form of payment get two points per dollar. Accumulating 500 points gets you $5 in credit at any of the stores, redeemable in-store or online. It is important to know that you cannot combine points earned using the card with points you earn otherwise.
Should I sign up for a store credit card to get more Bright Rewards?
Money expert Clark Howard is not a fan of most store credit cards, so you probably shouldn’t sign up for a branded card unless you intend to payoff the balance in full each month. In that case, this essentially amounts to a 5% cash-back bonus to use buying products in these stores. Bright Rewards members without a store card get 2% back simply for signing up for the program. There is no fee to be a member of Bright Rewards.
