Cricket Wireless customers are about to receive a new streaming perk.

It was just announced that the low-cost cell phone provider is going to include free HBO Max subscriptions for customers on select Cricket Wireless plans.

Here are the details.

Cricket Announces Agreement To Provide Free HBO Max

Beginning August 20, 2021, Cricket will provide free ad-supported HBO Max subscriptions to customers who are paying for its $60 Unlimited cell phone plan.

The ad-supported version of HBO Max, which was unveiled earlier in 2021, allows customers to watch the majority of the video streaming service‘s content for just $9.99 per month. That’s a $5 per month discount from the commercial-free version of the service.

That makes it a $10 monthly value for customers who are paying $60 per month for their cell service through Cricket.

“We are always looking for ways to bring our customers the best value possible. We know they are hungry for content and HBO Max offers the most cutting-edge and high-quality entertainment available,” Tony Mokry, vice president and chief marketing officer for Cricket Wireless, said in a news release. “From cult classics to new HBO Max Originals, we know our customers will be smiling ear to ear when they dive in. We’re so excited to be able to bring this incredible service and library of content to our beloved customers.”

Cricket Wireless becomes the first prepaid wireless company to offer such a deal with the HBO Max streaming service.

And it doesn’t appear to be a limited-time offer, either.

“Since launching HBO Max last year, we’ve continually expanded customers’ access to the product, and partnering with Cricket, our first prepaid wireless distributor of the streaming platform, is a great opportunity to offer millions of customers instant access to HBO Max at no cost to them,” Jennifer Mirgorod, Head of Partner Management and Partner Marketing, WarnerMedia said in a news release.

Does Your Cricket Plan Qualify for This Perk?

Unfortunately, not all Cricket Wireless customers will get this HBO Max perk.

In order to qualify, you must pay for the “Unlimited + 15 GB Mobile Hotspot” plan that costs as much as $60 per month for a single line. The price drops to $30 per line if you have four phones on your account.

Cricket subscribers on the 2 GB, 10 GB or Unlimited (without hotspot) plans will not be eligible for this HBO Max promotion.

The pricing difference between the $55 unlimited plan and the $60 plan required for this promotion does make it possible for $55 plan customers to still get a “deal” out of all this.

Cricket says you simply have to pay an extra $5 per month to gain access to the HBO Max service that would otherwise cost you $10 per month. So that’s half off on HBO Max if it’s a service you either already had or were considering getting.

Note: You may be required to upgrade to the ad-free version of HBO Max to experience all of the new release movies offered on the platform.

I cover the details of the content menu pretty thoroughly in my HBO Max review, but here are some sample titles to give you an idea of what to expect from the expansive content library:

Final Thoughts

With full-service carriers like T-Mobile (Netflix), AT&T (HBO Max) and Verizon (Disney+) offering free or discounted access to streaming services, it was inevitable that some low-cost carriers would attempt to follow suit to stay competitive.

If you are a Cricket Wireless customer already paying for this unlimited plan, this is a slam-dunk win for you. HBO Max is one of the premier video streaming services with access to high-quality and exclusive content.

If you’re shopping around for a new wireless service provider, this is just one more thing to put on the list of factors to consider as you make the best decision for your wallet. For a more in-depth look at wireless plans, please visit Team Clark’s guide here.
