Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling one million Ram pickup trucks in the U.S. due to a software error that can prevent the deployment of safety features in a rollover crash.
The issue has been linked to at least one death and two injuries, the automaker said Friday.

Software issue prompts Ram truck recall
After some trucks experience “significant underbody impact,” a computer module may incorrectly determine that one of its sensors has failed, temporarily disabling the side airbag and seat belt pretensioner, the AP reports.
If the vehicle is turned off and then back on, those restraints become functional again.
Affected vehicles include certain 2013-2016 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups, and 2014-2016 Ram 3500 pickups.
In addition to about one million vehicles in the U.S., the recall affects 216,007 vehicles in Canada, 21,668 in Mexico and 21,530 elsewhere.
In a news release, the automaker said occupant restraint control modules will be reprogrammed to address the software issue. Vehicle owners will receive a recall notice in June.
