Aviation Bill
Our nation’s lawmakers announced an agreement this week on an aviation bill to boost airport security, reduce screening lines and require airlines to refund fees to passengers whose bags are lost or delayed.
The bill would require airlines to refund checked bag fees to passengers whose luggage is lost or is delayed 12 hours or more for domestic flights or 15 hours or more for overseas flights. It also requires airlines to generally ensure that children 13 years of age or under are seated adjacent to an adult or older child traveling with them.
To address long airport screening lines, the bill requires the TSA to hire a marketing firm to generate greater public participation in the agency’s PreCheck expedited screening program for passengers who have been vetted and determined to be low security risks.
The bill also requires TSA to ensure PreCheck screening lanes are open during high-volume travel times.
And, the measure authorizes a pilot program to develop and test more efficient passenger and luggage screening systems.

TSA PreCheck in Atlanta
With a backlog of travelers waiting to sign up for the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck trusted traveler program, a temporary enrollment center will open in Atlanta August 16-20 at the Courtyard Atlanta Airport South in College Park.
Travelers can make appointments online three weeks in advance of the opening of the temporary enrollment center.
PreCheck membership, which costs $85 to enroll for five years, allows travelers the chance to go through expedited security screening with shorter lines.
There are permanent TSA PreCheck enrollment centers at Hartsfield-Jackson International, on Clark Howell Highway and on Century Boulevard NE in Atlanta and in Cartersville.
The temporary center in Atlanta is expected to enroll about 1,000 people during its week-long run in August.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
