Love to travel? You likely spend some amount of time trying to score great deals on airfare.

Most people don’t have the time or discipline to stalk every major site that sells plane tickets. Fortunately, there are several businesses that offer to automate that work for you.

Dollar Flight Club, one of those businesses, is a subscription travel service that will alert you to airfare deals from your home airports. Lately, the company has offered a flurry of heavily-discounted lifetime subscription deals.

Is it worth it to buy a Dollar Flight Club lifetime membership? That’s what a listener of the Clark Howard Podcast recently asked.

Is Dollar Flight Club Legitimate?

Should I buy a super-discounted Dollar Flight Club lifetime membership? That’s what a Clark listener wondered on the April 26 podcast episode.

Asked Steve in Tennessee: “Is Dollar Flight Club Lifetime fee of $149 worth it?”

If you’re not familiar with Dollar Flight Club, it’s a competitor to Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights). Dollar Flight Club is a freemium model that asks you to choose “home airports.” It then alerts you to international and domestic deals on airfare.

“What these services do is they give you alerts on special fare deals in coach and the front of the plane, or also premium economy,” Clark says. “Any fare category when a deal pops up, you get an alert. For a regular traveler it can save you a lot of money.”

Yes. Dollar Flight Club is Legitimate.

What Is Dollar Flight Club?

Clark’s No. 1 travel rule is to set up fare alerts and pick your vacation destination based on the deal you find. Then figure out what you’re going to do. So this service is right in his wheelhouse.

Dollar Flight Club offers a free trial. Its two paid tiers are Premium and Premium Plus. The memberships also offer discounts at some bespoke brands for travel and fashion including Allbirds and TripAdvisor.

You can select up to four departure airports from which to receive alerts.

Should You Buy a Dollar Flight Club Lifetime Membership?

Steve in Tennessee saw a deal to purchase a Dollar Flight Club Premium Plus lifetime membership for $149.

A quick Google search reveals that the company has offered a wave of recent discounts. I even found one expired offer from earlier in 2023 for $45.99. The offer claimed a discount of more than 97% off the normal price.

Clark 100% agrees that you should use one of these services to track airfare deals if you plan to travel even semi-regularly. He also loves getting a reputable service like Dollar Flight Club for a remarkable discount.

He does, however, wonder whether there’s a reason the company is trying so hard to increase its membership and perhaps raise additional cash right now.

“I don’t understand what Dollar Flight Club’s doing because they’re giving people lifetime access,” Clark says. “Any time somebody offers you a lifetime deal, it means for as long as they’re around.

“They may be doing great. If they’re doing great, I don’t understand why they’re offering something for 90%-plus off.”

Final Thoughts

Dollar Flight Club is legitimate and Clark-approved.

If you travel even occasionally, and the company sticks around for years to come, getting a lifetime Premium Plus subscription for more than 90% off the normal price is a great deal. Especially if you’re going to make use of the discount alerts.

The main risk is that the company is in bad financial shape and will dissolve at some point. However, even in that worst-case scenario, you could be risking $150 or less.
