Each year when the calendar flips from February to March, many of us start to catch spring fever. This is the month that will usher in what many people name their favorite season.

And along with those green shoots starting to emerge from the ground, deals are popping up too!

Here Are the Best March Deals

Food

March has a few notable holidays and events that usually offer up the opportunity to get some discounted or free food.

Be on the lookout for edible deals around these times:

  • March Madness – Begins March 19 and lasts through April 8
  • National Pi Day – March 14 (3.14, get it?)
  • St. Patrick’s Day – March 17
  • Free Cone Day – March 19

Though Ben & Jerry’s started this sweet holiday, Dairy Queen’s celebration of Free Cone Day is also a big fan favorite that usually happens on the first day of spring every year.

Outdoor Furniture and Grills

Spring is just days away, but the deals are already rolling in on outdoor favorites. Now is the time to score a deep discount with early promotions before the prices go up.

You can start to look for pre-season sales at retailers such as The Home Depot and Lowe’s Home Improvement. Those deals will continue to heat up next month as both retailers launch their Spring Black Friday events in early April.

Meanwhile, in our research, we’ve noted historical patterns of heavy discounts on patio swings during the month of March, and we’re already seeing some discounts on outdoor furniture.

March also happens to be a great month to catch a price break on charcoal grills and gas grills as well as kamado-style ceramic grills.

Clothing and More

Here’s another timely calendar play: As we head into spring, any past season clothing that’s still left on store racks is on extra-deep discount.

Surprisingly, that doesn’t mean just coats and outerwear. ClarkDeals Managing Editor Charis Brown notes that in recent weeks she’s seen dresses from last summer at her local Kohl’s being cleared out!

Meanwhile, retailers are also helping you gear up for the warmer weather to come with sales on activewear, running shoes and the like.

Winter Sports Equipment

March marks the beginning of the end of the season for winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. That means retailers are also looking to clear out their remaining supplies of snowshoes, ice skates, hand warmers, thermal socks and more.

You might also want to consider used winter sports gear for extra cost savings. REI has a used gear section, and stores such as Play It Again Sports offer pre-owned sporting equipment at a discount.

Select Airfare Deals

With school spring breaks underway around the country, March is shaping up to be a mini-sweet spot for deals.

Our in-house travel expert Clara Bosonetto says that you can reach Florida’s beaches or historic capitals like Boston or Washington D.C. at one-way rates from $19 to $26 (from Atlanta) with low fare carriers. Even airfare to New York City starts at just $26 before fees.

But note that you’ll often pay extra for picking your seats or checking a bag with these low fare carriers.

Meanwhile, one hot travel trend Clara has noticed is the rise of a new batch of upstarts — Avelo, Breeze, Allegiant, Play and Norse — that are keeping domestic and international airfares low by creating seasonal routes that might operate just twice a week.

“Travelers should think of airlines as an a la carte menu. You get an economy seat at the table and that’s about it,” she notes. “So be sure to add up all of the extras you might need with the low-fare carrier and compare costs with those of other airlines.”

All in all, low-cost airlines bring new options. Routes are opening up to cities rarely served, and we no longer have to fly round-trip with one airline.

“The new way to save is to search one-way fares,” Clara adds.

Gardening Supplies

It’s time to start thinking about getting back out in the yard and garden. In addition to the home improvement stores, you’ll also want to check out online shopping sites like Snow Joe and Woot. Both offer daily deals that last for only 24 hours or until sold out. So when you see a great price on gardening supplies, you should pounce on it!

Meanwhile, don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for the Black Friday in April sales at The Home Depot and Lowe’s coming in about a month!

Vacuums & Small Kitchen Appliances

With the coming of spring comes the arrival of spring cleaning. Vacuums typically go on sale around this time. Stay updated with the latest vacuum deals at ClarkDeals.com.

In addition, keep an eye out for small kitchen appliances at a deep discount at the likes of Belk, Kohl’s and Macy’s.

March has long been known for its weather that comes in like a lion but leaves like a lamb. And true to its reputation, the forecast for deals this month is ferocious — if you know where to look!
