Customers Love These Paints and Stains

The study, conducted in January 2021, is based on responses from more than 5,800 customers, many of whom bought paint and tackled home improvement projects during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some key findings from the report include:

  • When it comes to interior paint, Benjamin Moore tops the list with a score of 863.
  • For the retailer, exterior paint and exterior stain segments, Sherwin-Williams bested the rest with scores of 882, 869 and 850 respectively.

The study also showed that the pandemic didn’t stop customers from heading to the stores to make their choices for these home improvement supplies.

In fact, 98% of buyers said their experiences inside paint stores were safe and comfortable, according to the report.

“The effort put forth by paint retailers and staff to ensure the safety of their customers has undoubtedly paid off,” Christina Cooley, director of the Home Intelligence practice at J.D. Power, said in a news release. “Though we’ve seen a slight increase with exterior paint and stain being purchased online, interior paint shoppers still heavily rely on the consultative in-store experience.”
