In this article, I’ll take a close look at what you can expect when you sign up for Havenly including pricing options, final results and more. In 2020, Team Clark member Beth signed up for Havenly to try out the interior design service herself.

What To Expect From Havenly’s Interior Design Service
Whether you’re too busy to design your space or simply need help figuring out how to tie everything together, getting a professional’s help can be a good option. Technology has made hiring an interior designer more accessible and more affordable. In fact, the entire design process can be done completely online with services such as Havenly.
Before you sign up and get started, consider these four things to know about Havenly’s online interior design service:

1. What Is Havenly?
Havenly is an online interior design service that connects you with professional interior designers. After purchasing one of the two available packages, you’ll get to collaborate with a designer you choose, or you can let Havenly match a designer to your needs. Together you’ll create a personalized final design concept for a room of your choosing.
Whether you just need to add finishing touches to a room or you’re looking for a complete home makeover, you can get curated design picks and a personalized shopping list from Havenly. Your designer will get to know your style, preferences and budget before presenting a finalized design concept with links to purchase the pieces you select.
In addition to personal design services, Havenly also provides access to online resources including design inspiration and featured expert advice.

2. How Much Does Havenly Cost?
Havenly currently offers three different packages: Online Mini ($129), Online Full ($199) and In-Person ($699). Here’s what you can expect from each package.

All of Havenly’s packages let you work one-on-one with a professional designer to create an individualized design process tailored to your likes and dislikes. Each also allows you to shop from 200+ sellers and order directly through Havenly as well as access the Customer Happiness Team (customer service) via chat, email or phone.

3. How Does Havenly Work?
Havenly works by matching you with a designer who specializes in your desired style. You’ll communicate directly with your personal designer to create a final concept with curated design picks and a shopping list.
In order to access Havenly’s services, you’ll need to create a login, take a style quiz and purchase a design package.
Getting Started
To begin, click the “Get Started” button on Havenly’s homepage.
The first step is finding out your preferred style. You’ll start by scrolling through a selection of pre-designed rooms and choosing the styles that you like. Then, click “Next” to answer a few additional questions before creating an account and seeing your style results.
“This step helps Havenly figure out what your style is,” says Beth. “Based on my answers, it looks like I’m partial to Midcentury Modern.”
Project Details and Finding Your Designer
After you get your style results, you’ll answer a few more questions so that your designer can recommend pieces for your space. Beth chose the “Blank Space” option to see a full range of recommendations from her designer.
Havenly’s questionnaire will also include questions about your budget. You can choose “Thrifty,” “Only The Best” or a mix of pieces. After you complete your questionnaire, Havenly will recommend one of its designers who specializes in your style.
“They picked Madison for me because she specializes in Midcentury Modern and is a 98% match for my style,” says Beth. “Here, you can see how many designs she’s completed plus photos from her portfolio.”
On the same page, you can scroll down to explore other designers and portfolios. If you like a designer, you can click the heart next to that person’s name to save them as a “favorite” to your account. If you’re happy with the first designer Havenly recommends, you can just click “Begin Your Project.” If you decide later that you want a different designer, you will be able to switch.
Once you’ve clicked “Begin,” you’ll be able to choose which package you’d like to purchase. Make sure the room type and package selections are correct before checking out. Havenly lets you add other rooms onto your order, but currently, there is no discount for ordering multiple rooms at the same time.
Once you’re happy with your cart, you can enter your payment information and place the order. Now, Havenly will tell you that you need to complete your room profile and the timeline details with your designer.
Designing Your Room
Click “Start Your Room Profile.” You’ll need to use a camera and a measuring tape to capture your room’s dimensions. You’ll also be able to scroll through more photos and write comments about what you like. This helps your designer get a better idea of your style. Additionally, you can describe your inspiration by uploading photos or linking to a Pinterest board. If you have a specific idea in mind for your room, there’s a space to tell your designer what you’re thinking as well.
Upload photos to show your designer what the room looks like and point out what you want to keep in the room. Then choose which pieces of furniture you want your designer to recommend. Beth wanted to see a full-room design, so she requested everything you’d want for an empty living room.
Next, you’ll be able to rate a selection of art vignettes, materials and color palettes so that the designer has a better idea of the feel you want in the space. You can also indicate any specific requests or considerations such as a need to accommodate small children, pets or wheelchair-bound persons.
Next, you’ll have the chance to describe your budget. Beth set the limit at $8,000 to give the designer some leeway in the items she recommended.
Throughout the design process, the messages icon in the upper-right corner of the home screen allows you to see messages from your designer each step of the way. They may send you additional questions about your style or project, so be sure to respond in a timely manner.
The Final Result
Over the next couple of weeks, your designer will present some ideas that they’ll ask you to rate to hone in on your style even more.
“My designer messaged me several times to make sure that I was happy with the direction of the mood board with her recommendations,” says Beth. “You can also schedule a phone call with your designer if you have any questions during any steps of the process.”
At the end of the process, Beth’s designer sent her three final concepts with a variety of products available for purchase including rugs, furniture, artwork and decor. Below, you’ll see one of the final products from the Havenly Mini package:
If you purchase the Full package, you’ll also receive layout visualizations and a custom floor plan. With either package, Havenly will email you deals and suggestions for pieces to buy based on your final result.
“The prices on some of their pieces are actually worth it to me,” says Beth. “But always remember to comparison shop to ensure you’re getting the best deal!”
According to Havenly’s website, the company updates the site daily to reflect active offers and promotions from available sellers. Havenly also offers price matching if you find a lower price on a product at one of its seller partner’s sites. Beth saw pieces available from Wayfair, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Williams Sonoma and more.
4. Pros and Cons
If you have a space in need of refreshing or even an entire room that needs to be redesigned, Havenly is a great way to connect with an online interior designer.
After trying out Havenly ourselves, here are the biggest benefits and drawbacks we found from using the service:
Pros:
- Personalization: The site uses several methods to get an idea of your style and what you want. Then it partners you with a qualified designer who specializes in your style.
- Communication: You can get one-on-one time with your designer via messages, texts or calls throughout the design experience.
- Price Matching: If you find a lower price on one of Havenly’s 200+ seller partner sites, the company will match the price.
Cons:
- Package Limitations: The cheaper package doesn’t allow you to see how the pieces will fit in your room or look together in the space. You’d need to buy the full package to see the size of something before you buy it.
- Accessibility: You can use Havenly online or via the mobile app for iOS. Unfortunately, there isn’t an app available for Android devices.
If you do decide to try Havenly, keep in mind that you’re covered by what the company calls its Happiness Guarantee. This allows you to choose a different designer if things aren’t working out and get a new concept or full refund if you aren’t happy with the final results.
Take the time to consider whether or not you need the layout visualizations and custom floor plan features, as these are the only differences between the Mini ($129) and Full ($199) packages. If you need an in-person designer to visit your home and help you redesign your space that way, you can also check out the Havenly In-Person package ($699). No matter which package you end up purchasing, be sure to comparison shop before buying any furniture pieces after you’ve received your final shopping list.
