Some iPhone users could be in line for a $50 credit if they paid full price for a battery replacement last year, Apple announced this week.

The deal covers the iPhone 6 and later models, the company said in a press release. If you bought a new battery between January 1, 2017 and December 28, 2017, you may be eligible.

How to get a $50 credit on your iPhone battery replacement

Battery replacement became a big issue with Apple late last year when the company admitted that it was throttling older devices to keep them working at optimum levels.

But the admission was not received kindly by many, who had long suspected Apple was tinkering with their devices through updates, especially when a new model was introduced.

Controversy — and plenty of lawsuits — soon followed as the company took a major public relations hit. Apple has tried to calm customer concern by offering a rebate on battery replacements and introducing an update that can show iPhone users their battery strength.

As for the $50 credit, Apple said that it began contacting customers with instructions on how to get the deal on May 24 and will continue to do so until July 27, 2018.

The company said that if you haven’t gotten an email from them by August 1 but believe you’re eligible, contact Apple by December 31, 2018. You may have to prove that your device was serviced at an authorized Apple dealer.

To keep your iPhone working properly, having a strong battery is a must. But it also helps to have a device that is free of dirt and other foreign substances. Here is how to clean an iPhone in four easy steps.
