Android Alert: How to Stop Your Phone From Tracking Your Every Move

Stop Google From Tracking You on an Android Smartphone

Apple says the feature is meant to improve your experience using the Maps app, but not everyone is OK with being tracked.

Some people on Clark’s Facebook page wanted to know how to delete location data on Android devices that are connected to Google. Here’s what you need to know:

Step 1: From your phone’s settings menu, scroll down and select “Location.”

Step 2: Scroll down and select “Google Location History.”

Step 3: Turn “Location History” off using the slider.

Step 4: Click “OK” when the dialog box appears. Then click “Manage Activities” at the bottom of the screen.

Step 5: Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right of the screen and select “Settings” from the dropdown menu.

Step 6: Scroll down to “Location settings” to delete your location history. You can also control your current location from this menu.

Step 7: Read the disclaimer and check the box to confirm that you’re permanently deleting your location history. Click delete.

To be clear, Google says its Location History feature helps make life easier by providing users recommendations based on places they’ve visited or traffic predictions for their daily commute.

To delete the data from a computer instead of a phone, visit maps.google.com/locationhistory.
