YouTube TV has confirmed that the starting price for its live TV streaming service is going up by $15 a month.
The new price is $64.99 per month, up from $49.99. New subscribers will pay the higher price right away, but the change takes effect for existing subscribers on or after July 30.
Clark.com predicted a price hike when YouTube TV recently announced it was adding ViacomCBS networks.
YouTube TV says in a news release that eight of those networks launched on June 30: BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TV Land and VH1.
BET Her, MTV2, MTV Classic, Nick Jr., NickToons and TeenNick will be added at a later date.
YouTube TV’s base plan now includes more than 85 networks. The service features unlimited DVR storage space, three concurrent streams and up to six accounts per household.
With the price hike, YouTube TV is now more expensive than its two main competitors: Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV.
“This is one of those moments when you have to look at alternatives because what was a great deal at $50 becomes no deal at all at $65,” money expert Clark Howard says. “Unless you like a ton of the new channels, look at the other options that are cheaper than YouTube TV’s new $65 a month.”
If you’re looking to save money on your streaming TV subscription, Sling TV is the place to start. It has two skinny bundles that are $30 a month separately, but you can combine them and pay $45 a month.
One day after YouTube TV’s price hike, Sling TV launched a price guarantee. Get the details here!
