Google uses AI to help you get the best travel deals

According to a December 14 blog post, the search engine is expanding the booking features you’re used to on Google Flights with a few helpful new features.

For starters, Google will now use its machine learning capabilities to clue you into the best time to buy an airline ticket. It will also help you figure out if hotel room rates are headed higher, among other things.

Just look for language that indicates “There’s a 90% chance prices for this trip won’t get cheaper” or “Prices for your dates are $385 less than usual” or whatever the case may be. Then pull the trigger and snatch that deal!

On the other hand, if Google thinks that based on historical patterns you should hold off buying a ticket, it will let you know that, too.

The price-tracking features are similar to those offered by competitors like KAYAK and Hopper, but Google will make its price predictions available to anyone doing a web search for the best travel deals.

When it comes to hotel searches, Google will alert you to times of heavy congestion at your destination — like big conferences and musical festivals — which is when room rates tend to get jacked up!

You can also opt in to get email alerts about price fluctuations on your phone, and on your desktop beginning early next year.

Meanwhile, Google Trips is offering a new Discounts feature. You’ll get instant access to deals on ticketing and tours centered around top attractions and activities at your destination.
