Delta has finally realized that a bag of peanuts or pretzels and a soda aren’t enough to keep people happy during a long flight.

So the airline is bringing back complimentary meals in 12 markets nationwide after receiving positive feedback from passengers during a test period late last year.
“We are all about making our Main Cabin experience the best it can be for our customers and offering free, high quality meals is a big part of that experience,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s Senior Vice President of In-Flight Service. “When we tested this concept, our customers loved it and appreciated it so we are implementing in our most strategic markets.’

For overnight flights, Delta said customers will be offered a breakfast bar during the pre-arrival beverage service.
The free meals return March 1 for flights between New York’s JFK and Los Angeles/San Francisco. Service will expand on April 24 to 10 additional markets:
This change comes as Delta expands a restrictive basic economy ticket option, which offers no seat assignment until after check-in, no refunds or changes and no upgrades.
The low-cost fare does include the same food and beverage service that regular economy passengers get.
