Sprint offers free Sling TV to unlimited data customers in select markets

In what could be a sign of things to come, Sprint is sweetening its unlimited wireless data offer by giving away a basic package of free Sling TV service to customers in two major markets.

Sprint teams up with Sling

It’s the best-kept secret in the wireless world: The cheapest unlimited data offering of all comes from Sprint!

Sprint starts at $50 a month for a single line of unlimited data. By comparison, AT&T prices out at $90 per month for a single line of unlimited data; Verizon charges $80 per month; and T-Mobile charges $70.

Yet despite winning on the price front, Sprint seems to get left behind when it comes to garnering its share of media buzz around unlimited data offerings.

So to build some awareness around its unlimited plan, Sprint is teaming up with Sling TV to give new and existing customers free access to the latter service in Atlanta and Chicago.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sling, this $20/month streaming alternative to pay TV is the only service at the moment that features ESPN. That channel alone has prevented a lot of people from cutting the cord in the past. Sling is definitely worth a look if you’re a sports fan and want to reduce what you pay for TV!

And it’s not possible to pay any lower than zero dollars for TV, right?

So in order to participate in this Sprint/Sling offer, you must add at least four lines on Sprint’s Unlimited Freedom plan. In return, you’ll get free access to more than 30 streaming TV channels via Sling, including ESPN, CNN, Disney, HGTV and others.

You can watch for free through May 2018, at which point you’ll find yourself paying $17 a month for Sling going forward.

Can’t come up with four lines to add to a Sprint plan? No worries! You can still get a $3 monthly discount right now if you’re a Sprint customer with less than four lines. That will make your final price for Sling $17 a month, effective immediately.

‘We often times will conduct trials for new service or pricing,’ Sprint spokesperson Kathleen Dunleavy tells FierceWireless. ‘This trial represents a great opportunity for customers in these markets to try out Sling TV on our network ‘ and provides our customers more entertainment options.’
