At issue in the expanded recall are Panasonic lithium-ion battery packs that were factory installed in 41 models of Toshiba Satellite laptops or installed by Toshiba technicians during repairs.
Toshiba has posted a full list of the battery packs and laptops that are involved in the recall at this point.
If you prefer to do a manual check, look for a part numbers that begins with G71C (G71C*******) printed on the battery pack. That will indicate your laptop is involved in this recall.
Toshiba has received five reports in total of the battery overheating and melting. Four reports prompted the original March 2016 recall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Since then, one additional report of overheating and melting has come in, which prompted the expanded recall.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
Go online to http://go.toshiba.com/battery to find out how to receive a free replacement battery pack.
Until you receive the replacement, the CPSC strongly recommends you only use your laptop by plugging it into the wall.
