There’s a brand new wireless provider that may be able to help you lower or even eliminate your monthly cell phone bill.

FreeUP Mobile says it combines a rewards program with access to America’s largest 4G LTE network and has a goal of making wireless service free.

New option for free or low-cost cell phone service

Here’s how it works: FreeUP has four monthly plans starting at $10 per month. The $25 plan features 1 GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited global talk and text.

Of course, $25 per month isn’t free, but that’s before the rewards component…

Subscribers can earn rewards credits by downloading coupons, taking surveys, watching videos, referring friends and making purchases at partner retailers.

In a news release, the company said someone can easily earn about $1 per day in credits to be applied toward their bill.

Although the service isn’t technically free, you may be able to offset the entire monthly plan cost if you’re willing to do the extra work to earn the credits.

Shopping online is one of the featured ways to get credits, but that could make this less of a deal, if you think about it.

For example, if you’re tempted to spend $20 at a local restaurant just because it partners with FreeUP to give you a $2 credit, is that really good for your wallet?

If you still think it’s worth a shot, you can see if your existing phone is compatible and buy a SIM card online.

Otherwise, users who don’t need a lot of data may be better off signing up with an affordable mobile carrier like Republic Wireless or Xfinity Mobile. Here’s how I lowered my bill to $12 per month.
