There’s a fake Netflix app making the rounds that promises free access to this otherwise paid streaming service.

But beware because that ‘free access’ could wind up costing you a pretty penny!

Beware of this fake Netflix app

The ‘Netflix Login Generator’ app claims it will let users access leaked Netflix accounts so they can watch whatever they want for free.

But what it really does is encrypt select bits of data on your computer and then ask for $100 in Bitcoins to unfreeze the files, according to the Kaspersky Lab blog.

At last check, this Netflix Login Generator fake app was only harming Windows 7 and Windows 10 users. Those running XP or Windows 8 on their devices seemed to be immune.

But that could change at any moment should hackers tweak the malware further, so stay as far away from this one as possible!

This ransomware targets your C:/user directory and encrypts the following types of files:

  • .ai
  • .asp
  • .aspx
  • .avi
  • .bmp
  • .csv
  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .epub
  • .flp
  • .flv
  • .gif
  • .html

Here’s a helpful reminder: You should always back up important documents in the cloud. Some free services include Google Drive, Apple’s iCloud, Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox.
