Apple celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone by announcing its most expensive phone ever.

The $999 iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10) is one of three phones that Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled on Tuesday. The other two phones are the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, starting at $699 and $799, respectively.

Apple unveils 3 new phones: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus & iPhone X

The iPhone 8 features display, camera and speaker enhancements, plus wireless charging capability.

Meanwhile, iPhone X has a stunning all-screen design and utilizes facial recognition technology to unlock the phone. Gestures replace the home button for easy navigation.

For example, you can simply swipe up from the bottom of the phone to go home from anywhere.

“iPhone X is the future of the smartphone. It is packed with incredible new technologies, like the innovative TrueDepth camera system, beautiful Super Retina display and super fast A11 Bionic chip with neural engine,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone X enables fluid new user experiences — from unlocking your iPhone with Face ID, to playing immersive AR games, to sharing Animoji in Messages — it is the beginning of the next ten years for iPhone.”

Apple enthusiasts will have a little bit of time to think over the $1,000 price tag for iPhone X because it isn’t available for pre-order until October 27 and will be in stores on November 3.

On the other hand, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are available for pre-order September 15 and in stores September 22.

Don’t pay full price for a new iPhone!

Money expert Clark Howard says you shouldn’t rush to pay $1,000 for a new iPhone. Instead, wait for a lower price from the major cell phone carriers. They will likely offer special deals to compete for your business!

At the same time, watch for great promotions from top-end Android players as they try to keep people from switching to Apple.

Another way to save money and still carry a fancy iPhone around is to buy an older model. Apple has already reduced the price of the iPhone 7 to $549 and a refurbished iPhone 6s is only $369.

Plus, make sure to look out for great deals on recent iPhone models that will likely begin to pop up over the next few weeks and months. You can find just-like-new, used iPhones at bargain prices once all the hype starts to settle down.
