Apple just unveiled a special edition iPhone: Here’s what you need to know

Apple has just revealed special edition iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus phones in a stunning red finish.

The new phones recognize more than 10 years of partnership between Apple and the (RED) organization, which provides access to life-saving HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Apple’s iPhone 7 now comes in red

“Every purchase contributes to the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS programs and help deliver an AIDS-free generation,” Apple said on its website.

The company has raised $130 million for (RED) over the past decade.

“Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”

According to Apple, the red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB models starting at $749. There’s no 32 GB version of the phone, which sells for $649 in other colors.

Although the color is different, the red phone, which will be available Friday, March 24, has the same specifications as the existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models.

There are rumors the iPhone 8, with a major redesign, is coming in September.
