Blu is a hit with Amazon Prime members

Amazon has teamed up with U.S. manufacturer Blu for the R1 HD. It’s a basic no-nonsense phone that’s available for as little as half a C-note thanks to a subsidy from the online retailer.

The cost of the handset is held down by Amazon putting its ads on the lock screen. If you don’t want to see the ads, you do have the option to pay a premium for an ad-free version of the phone.

The phone runs the latest version of Android and has been a big hit with consumers — even topping the Amazon bestseller list.

Depending on your storage needs, there’s both a Prime 16GB version for $59.99 with ads (Non-Prime $109.99 with no ads) and a Prime 8GB version for $49.99 with ads (Non-Prime $99.99 no ads).

Don’t be thrown off if you see different pricing

You’ll still get the deal! Here’s how Amazon says they’ll handle it:

‘Prime free trial and invitee customers: We will automatically apply an Amazon.com Gift Card to your Gift Card Balance in the amount equal to the Prime exclusive discount after you become a paid Prime member. If you cancel your paid Prime membership or return the qualifying smartphone within the first 3 months of your paid Prime membership, we may void your Gift Card or charge you in the amount of the Gift Card. Terms and Conditions apply.’
