Here are the latest Chrysler recalls

First up, the Italian-American automaker is recalling 770,000 SUVs due to fault wiring that could lead to unintended airbag deployment on the driver side.

Five minor injuries have been reported in this particular recall, though none involved crashes.

The following models are now under recall:

  • 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles (538,000 sold in North America)
  • 2011-2015 Fiat Freemont crossovers (233,000 sold elsewhere)

In addition to the danger of surprise airbag deployment, the same wiring issue may also result in your windshield wipers turning on by themselves or other associated switch issues.

If you have one of these vehicles, bring it to a dealership so they can fix the wiring.

The second recall involves another 565,000 vehicles in need of alternator replacements to avert potential fire risk.

Chrysler says hot temperatures may prematurely wear down diodes in these particular vehicles, resulting in a burning smell or smoke and possible harm to the anti-lock brakes or systemic engine stalls.

This second recall involves the following vehicles:

  • 2011-2014 model year Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger cars and Dodge Durango SUVs
  • 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs

Two potentially related accidents without injury have been reported to Chrysler related to this second recall.

Again, the remedy here is to get your vehicle to a dealership where they will replace the alternators.
