How much have you spent on Amazon over the years? Here’s how to tell

Are you spending too much money on Amazon.com? There’s a little-known way to find out the exact amount you’ve spent on the e-commerce site over the years.

There are four main steps to figuring out your total Amazon spending. Here’s a step-by-step guide…

An easy way to see all of your Amazon purchases in one place

Step 1: Request your Order History Report

Amazon makes it very easy to access your spending data. From the Order History Reports page (direct link), select the “Orders and shipments” report, enter a start and end date, then request the report.

I ran a report from 2010 (the year I joined Amazon) to today’s date:

Step 2: Download and open the report in Microsoft Excel

After requesting the report, it will be available for download as a CSV file, which you can then open in Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet app to see the total amount you’ve spent.

Here’s some of the information you’ll find on the spreadsheet:

• Order date
• Payment type
• Shipping address
• Total charges

Important: This particular report doesn’t provide specific details about the products you’ve ordered, but you can go back to the first step and request an “Items” report for that information.

I ran the “Orders and shipments” report because it’s easier to calculate total spending. You may want to try both.

Step 3: Calculate your Amazon spending

To determine how much you’ve spent on Amazon over the years, identify the “Total Charged” column and scroll down to the cell immediately below the last transaction total.

Next, with that cell highlighted (row 98 and column U in my example), double click on the AutoSum option to add up the total.

Step 4: Review your Amazon purchase total

Now it’s time for the moment of truth! According to the data, I’ve spent more than $2,700 on Amazon since 2010, which is honestly a lot less than I thought.
