Walmart Pay is now the only way to submit your receipts to Walmart Savings Catcher, but what does that mean if you use cash back apps like Ibotta?
Team Clark has received this question several times since Walmart’s policy change, so I did some investigating.
Here’s the issue: When you use Walmart Pay with your smartphone at the checkout, you only get an e-receipt — not a printed receipt that many grocery rebate apps like Ibotta require.
Without a paper receipt, Ibotta’s FAQ page says shoppers are out of luck:
We do not accept e-receipts, including Walmart Pay and Walmart Pick-Up, at this time. We are working on this option for the future.
Although Ibotta says it technically doesn’t accept e-receipts, I tested out a way that you can still use both Walmart Savings Catcher and Ibotta by printing your e-receipt at home:
This requires a few extra steps, but it may be worth it if you earn lots of cash back from Ibotta and Walmart Savings Catcher.
Ibotta offers are far more valuable to some shoppers. If that’s the case, you may want to just pay with a credit card or cash at the register and get a printed receipt — just know you won’t be able to use Savings Catcher.
