Returning items that you buy online can be a big hassle, but Walmart says it has come up with a solution that it’s rolling out just in time for the busy holiday season.

The retailer says its new returns program, Mobile Express Returns, is the fastest and simplest in retail.

Walmart’s faster, simpler returns program

Mobile Express Returns combines Walmart’s more than 4,700 locations with the Walmart app. Here are the two steps that customers will follow:

1. Initiate the return on your phone: Using the Walmart app, customers will select the transaction and items they want to return and follow the prompts to start the return process
2. Finish the return at the store: At the customer service desk, scan the QR code displayed on the card reader with the Walmart app, then hand the item to the associate

The majority of Walmart stores will have a “Mobile Express Lane” at customer service to complete returns in about 35 seconds.

This new returns process will be available starting in early November for items sold and shipped by Walmart.com, followed by store purchases in early 2018.

Walmart said refunds will be credited to a customers’ payment account as soon as the next day.

The retailer is providing this new option for shoppers who don’t want to send off their return in the mail and wait days to get their money back — but this does require a trip to the store.

However, as early as December, some items may not even need to be returned to get a refund.

Customers who no longer want select products — like shampoo and makeup that Walmart would discard anyway — will be able to get an instant refund through the app without physically returning the item.

Walmart said its advanced technology can detect shoppers who are trying to cheat the system.
