The website compared 150 cities across 21 metrics, including cost of groceries, prevalence of affordable restaurants and the number of food festivals per capita.

While Orlando got the top honors overall, Houston is the best for affordable eats. It placed 39th overall.

‘These wallet-friendly cities cater to foodies who prefer to concoct their own scrumptious creations at home, sample unique flavors of the local gastronomy or both,’ WalletHub said.

As part of this study, WalletHub asked a handful of experts for their money-saving tips. Here are a few of them!

  • Try small ethnic restaurants or food trucks for varied and inexpensive meal options.
  • Buy fresh, in-season produce at your local farmers market.
  • Visit “mom and pop” restaurants instead of chains.
  • Utilize the bulk bin for pantry staples and don’t shy away from frozen foods.
  • Check apps like Yelp to see which restaurants are highly-rated.
  • Cook at home to save money and prepare meals that are specific to your health needs and preferences.
