Many retailers will once again start their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day, but dozens of stores are choosing to keep their doors shut this year.
The retailers that are staying closed on Thanksgiving will let their employees spend the holiday with family and friends.

This is a difficult decision for some businesses to make. With online shopping increasing in popularity, major retailers often decide to open their physical stores for competitive reasons.
However, BestBlackFriday.com has found that opening on Thanksgiving isn’t all that popular with consumers.
In a survey of more than 500 Americans conducted in late September of this year, 57% of respondents didn’t like the idea of stores opening on Thanksgiving.

Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine even have so-called “blue laws” to prevent many retailers from opening on Thanksgiving.
