What you need to know about expiring Sports Authority gift cards

It’s been about a month since Sports Authority’s going-out-of-business sale began, and the liquidators have been advertising new price cuts.

But something else in a recent TV commercial also caught our attention.

When do Sports Authority gift cards expire? It’s complicated…

The commercial goes into the latest round of discounts, which we’ll get to in a moment, but the ad also mentions the gift card deadline: June 27.

Signs at the register also say the last day to use a gift card is June 27.

But since the closing sale began, a message on Sports Authority’s website has stated a gift card expiration date of June 28.

Which one is it? To be on the safe side, use your gift card by Monday, June 27.

Sports Authority’s closing sale began in late May, offering 10% to 30% off original prices at first, which left many shoppers unimpressed.

Just recently, liquidators took new markdowns, making it 20% to 40% off.

Keep in mind, those discounts are taken off original prices, and there are far more items marked 20% off than 40% off.

In earlier reports, shoppers told us it wasn’t even worth a trip to the store. Some complained about not receiving the proper discounts, but since all sales are final, they couldn’t get their money back.

For the best deals, Clark recommends waiting until August, 10 days before the stores close for good.
