McDonald’s is about to give a fresh answer to the old question, “Where’s the beef?”

Beginning in 2018, all Quarter Pounder burgers will be served with fresh beef patties cooked to order when you order them!

Fresh beef for all Quarter Pounders by 2018

Last year, McDonald’s franchisees tested fresh beef patties in some 300 stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, area and another more than 70 locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to a press release.  Customer response was overwhelming positive so now the fresh beef will be rolled out in all Quarter Pounder burgers across a majority of restaurants by mid-next year.

This will be a historic change in the supply chain model for McDonald’s, considering the restaurant has always used frozen burger patties.

Maybe it’s the impact of the foodie movement that’s being felt here. Customers have changing expectations and put a premium on fresh food that’s cooked to order. So while McDonald’s would never be mistaken for a foodie destination, it looks like the Golden Arches is taking a cue from customers who may be influenced by the broader eating movement.

“Today’s announcement is part of a continuing food journey for McDonald’s,” McDonald’s USA President Chris Kempczinskin said in a press release. “Over the last two years, we have accelerated the pace of change around how we source and serve our food. Delivering fresh beef that’s prepared when our customers order their food is just another example of how we are raising the bar. We’re just getting started, and can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

There’s even a dedicated website — HotofftheGrillatMcDonalds.com — for the new initiative.
