Changes to Ibotta’s cash-back shopping app

When you download or update the app, you’ll first notice the new color scheme, but Ibotta says that’s only the beginning. The Denver-based company says the changes it made will help you earn cash back faster.

According to Ibotta, the upgrades to its app led to a 17% increase in cash back for beta testers.

“Ibotta’s inventory has swelled to more than 1,300 brands and retailers, and we quite literally outgrew our own app,” said Bryan Leach, founder and CEO of Ibotta. “To accommodate this inventory growth and provide our millions of users with a more personal and intuitive shopping experience, we redesigned and rebuilt the app from the ground up.”

Launched in 2012, Ibotta says it has nearly 22 million downloads and counting. Users have earned nearly $200 million in cash back during that time.

Here are the 3 big changes you’ll notice with the new and improved Ibotta app:

1. Search and discover offers easily

The key to earning cash back with Ibotta is unlocking and redeeming offers, but sometimes the list of items can be overwhelming. Ibotta says its engineers have created personalization tools to address this issue. That means it will be easier for users to find the products and offers most relevant to them, based on their shopping habits.

2. Speedy receipt capture

For most Ibotta offers, you must upload a receipt in order to get your cash back. Ibotta says new optical character recognition technology has doubled the speed of its receipt capture, which means you’ll receive your cash back faster.

3. Vertical scroll

Ibotta says it shifted the app’s display from horizontal scroll to vertical scroll, which is more user-friendly. This may not seem like a big deal, but just wait until you try it out. It’s much easier to browse the app using just one hand.

The welcome bonus is here to stay!

One thing that’s not changing is Ibotta’s popular welcome bonus. New users receive $10 for trying out the app and existing users get $5 per referral.
