Move over, Blue Apron! Publix is getting in on the growing meal kit trend at two of its Florida grocery stores.

Publix Aprons meal kits include “perfectly portioned, high-quality ingredients for you to prepare a restaurant-style dinner at home,” according to the beloved supermarket chain.

Publix meal kits put to the test

Currently, the meal kits are only available in Orlando at The Marketplace at Dr. Phillips and in Tampa at Shoppes of Citrus Park.
Ashley Gurbal Kritzer of the Tampa Bay Business Journal tested out two of the meals kits.

  • Caramelized onion meatballs; $11.99 for 2 servings
  • Vegetable pizza and spinach bacon salad; $14.99 for 3 servings

Kritzer, who has tried Blue Apron and didn’t like it, said the Publix kits were as simple as advertised and made good-tasting meals, but not the best she has ever had.

“If these were sold at a Publix near me, they would be a solid grab ‘n’ go option on a busy weeknight,” Kritzer wrote.

According to research from Market Force, meal kits are more popular than ever before. Around 11% of consumers have tried a meal kit delivery service at least once.

However, 76% of those who tried a meal delivery service stopped using it, primarily due to poor value, according to the survey.
