Don’t look now, but there are going to be bushels of candy left over from Halloween and it will soon be coming to a cubicle near you. If you’re like millions of others, you bought those big bags of candy corn and Hershey’s Kisses hoping that little Suzy and Ivan would grab a little of it.
And that’s just what they did — grab a little of it — which means you’ll be stuck with most of it long after Ivan and Suzy have gone to bed. Don’t fret, you’re not the only one who bought gobs and gobs of candy this year.
Halloween spending was expected to be up 4%, a slight decrease from last year’s 5.4% increase, but a decent tick nonetheless, according to research firm IHS Markit. Consumers this year were projected to spend about $32 per household, which means that there should be some sweet treats in abundance at the office in the coming days.
Although your co-workers no doubt enjoy a sugary diet every now and then, their waistlines and blood sugar levels may thank you over the long term if you find different ways to dispose of the treats.
Here are some creative ways to get rid of that leftover Halloween candy:
A glass vase can be put to good use by filling it up with some good stuff and putting it in a common room (no, not the laundry room).
If you’ve got some spare miniature flower pots, adding a Styrofoam ball on top with lollipops really makes it … pop!
You may be that neighbor that decided to give the kids delicious fruits — apples, pears, etc. — instead of the things with no nutritional value. If you didn’t give them all away, you could break out the chocolate and significantly jazz up your treat by dipping it and adding sprinkles. If you’re watching portion size, slice that apple up.
Ah, candy corn, you either hate it or you love it. Making a brownies version of it and adding sticks? Pretty awesome.
