BurgerFi has become the first national burger chain to serve the plant-based Beyond Burger.

In July, Florida-based BurgerFi introduced the meatless burger at eight of its 101 locations nationwide and reportedly plans to expand it to all stores by the end of the summer.

The Beyond Burger, a product from Beyond Meat, is already sold at select Whole Foods and Safeway locations.

BurgerFi now selling plant-based Beyond Burger

Beyond Meat says on its website that the product is the world’s first plant-based burger that looks, cooks and tastes like a fresh beef burger.

The 100% vegan patty has 20 grams of protein, primarily from peas. Beets give it a pink color.

According to the menu board at the BurgerFi location I visited, the Beyond Burger comes with American cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions.

You can also order it vegan style, which means no cheese or mayo and a special vegan bun.

After reading about this burger in the New York Times, I took my mother to one of the BurgerFi test locations to see what all the hype is about.

I got the burger vegan style, but my mom got hers with cheese and mayo.

We both agreed the burger had a pretty good flavor. Ranking it on a scale from one to 10, we would give it a seven or eight. It was a little messy, though. The bun couldn’t support the big patty and toppings.

On Twitter, people who are just now hearing about this new addition to BurgerFi’s menu are sharing their own reviews:

The Beyond Burger is $8.67 at BurgerFi, which is $1.50 more than a regular burger. Here’s a list of the locations where it’s currently available:
