The days of “Whole Paycheck” may be over. Whole Foods Market will begin cutting prices at its 470 stores next week, as soon as Amazon’s purchase of the supermarket chain is finalized.
The goal is to make “high-quality, natural and organic food affordable for everyone,” Amazon said in a news release.

Amazon confirmed to Clark.com that Whole Foods will lower prices first thing Monday morning on a selection of best-selling grocery staples, and more discounts are on the way.
Amazon Prime members will have even more reasons to shop at Whole Foods. In the future, Prime will become the grocery store’s customer rewards program, providing special savings and other in-store benefits.
An Amazon Prime membership costs $99/year or $10.99/month.
You can also expect to see Whole Foods Market’s private label products sold through Amazon.com, and Amazon Lockers will be available at some of the grocery stores so customers can pick up Amazon purchases.
Will Amazon disrupt the grocery industry with its purchase of Whole Foods the same way that Aldi has? Only time will tell.
