The most foolish thing I’ve ever done to save money

Recently, I learned about a one-day only Chipotle BOGO (buy one, get one) deal on our sister site ClarkDeals.com.

In honor of Hockey Weekend Across America from March 2 through March 4, the burrito chain was giving customers a free entree with the purchase of another entree at the start of the weekend.

Apparently, March 2 was “Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day,” so it just made sense.

So on Friday, my children and I took advantage of the Chipotle BOGO offer. The only problem was I don’t have allegiance to any particular team in the sport, so I don’t have a hockey jersey.

But rather than paying big bucks to buy one new at retail or poking around a thrift store and hoping to find a used hockey jersey, I decided to make my own.

I printed out a logo of the local hockey team — the Atlanta Gladiators — and safety-pinned it to my shirt.

To my amazement, the Chipotle cashier let me get the BOGO! Of course, I looked kind of silly in the process, as my children were happy to point out.

Looking around the restaurant, I was quite a sight. While other customers represented with official team jerseys, I had a blurry logo from my busted printer at home hanging lopsided on the front of my shirt!

Turns out I’m not the only one of Team Clark willing to go to these kinds of pains for BOGO burritos.

Charis of our team says she and her husband are of like mind.

“We did something similar at Chipotle. They had BOGO if you dressed up for Halloween and Justin didn’t have a costume, so we cut out cardboard in the shape of a Batman mask and colored it in with black sharpie.”

And other members of our team like Beth reported “dressing up” by wearing white and pinning black spots to their shirts to score free Chick-fil-A on Cow Appreciation Day at the chicken sandwich chain.
