Have you ever had a shoe that felt like it was made for your foot? I have been a longtime fan of mass customization and am excited about the latest developments coming to market.
For example, Nike has been making sneakers that are customized as far as the look and styling goes. But now New Balance is using 3-D printing to create an exact fit for the foot of top athletes like Jenny Barringer Simpson, Kim Conley, Barbara Parker and Jack Bolas.
No word yet on price point for the casual athlete, but you can bet it will come down over time. The rich who become early adopters of this technology once it’s made available to average Joes, not just super-athletes, will help the rest of us out by driving future prices down.
