If you’re a fan of Buffalo Wild Wings, you know that Tuesday is the day to visit one of the chain’s more than 1,000 restaurants nationwide for half-off traditional chicken wings.

Now, BWW is replacing that popular promotion at its company-owned locations.

Buffalo Wild Wings is changing its half-off wing special

During an earnings call, company executives said the second quarter of 2017 was “challenging” for Buffalo Wild Wings and the casual dining industry as a whole.

The chicken wing promotion remains popular with consumers, but it’s hurting the chain’s profits.

Buffalo Wild Wings blames the high price of traditional chicken wings. They were $2.05 a pound in the second quarter, up 5.7% from last year’s second quarter average.

By mid-September, the restaurant is rolling out a boneless wing BOGO offer on Tuesdays at company-owned locations. Franchisees are then expected to follow.

“Industry-wide, it is clear that consumers are seeking value and convenience in their dining occasions. Dining at home continues to become more prevalent and we know we must deliver an amazing experience for our fans in restaurants and for takeout and delivery,” said president and CEO Sally Smith. “We are optimistic about the transition to boneless wings, which provides a more stable promotional platform for the future.”

Company executives said boneless wings, which are less costly, are already outselling traditional wings.
