Aldi is remodeling 1,300 existing locations

The company has announced a $1.6 billion plan to remodel and expand more than 1,300 U.S. locations by 2020. Updated stores will have a modern design with open ceilings and natural lighting.

Aldi provided Clark.com with these pictures so that shoppers can see the changes coming to their store:

If this looks familiar, it’s similar to the new 365 by Whole Foods Market stores opening across the country.

But there’s a big difference between Whole Foods and Aldi when it comes to price. Shoppers turn to Aldi because the chain’s private brands can save up to 50% off national brands.

Aldi says your favorite items are here to stay, but the focus going forward is really on fresh foods.

“We’re continuing to expand our fresh offerings, which means we need to provide more space for produce, meat, and bakery items,” said Aldi’s CEO Jason Hart. “We’ve also made a number of improvements to our products – such as removing added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils from all of our ALDI exclusive brand foods.”

As Aldi remodels 1,300 stores nationwide, it’s also planning to open 650 new stores. The company hopes to have about 2,000 U.S. locations by the end of 2018.

“We’ve grown so consistently year over year because our loyal customers love to share with their friends and family that shopping at ALDI can save time and money without sacrificing quality,’ said Hart. ‘We’re thrilled to provide ALDI fans an even better, more welcoming store in which to shop.”
