FamilyTreeNow.com says on its homepage that it has “one of the largest collections of genealogy records anywhere, and they’re all 100% free to search!”
The website pulls up a wealth of information with just a first and last name. Results include current and past addresses, age, relatives and other people you may know.
While this may be surprising, it’s not illegal. The information is compiled from public records.
The good news though is that there’s an easy way to opt out so that your information is removed from FamilyTreeNow.com’s database forever.
According to FamilyTreeNow.com, it will take up to 48 hours for your record to be taken off the site.
“Just because you opt out of FamilyTreeNow.com doesn’t mean there aren’t another 100 places on the web where people can find information about you,” Clark said.
