Make Extra Money This Weekend in 60 Minutes or Less

Feeling like your budget is a little pinched? If you can dedicate a little time, you can pick up a lot of bucks.

All earnings below are before taxes and/or any related expenses.

1. Participate in a Focus Group

Estimated hourly earnings: $50 – $75

While focus groups can take up to two hours or more, it is possible to find hour-long focus groups. Here’s how to find focus group opportunities in your area.

2. Donate Your Plasma

Estimated hourly earnings: $30 – $40

This is a little-known way to make some extra money that recently appeared on our radar here at Clark.com.

If you’ve ever given blood, you already basically know what to expect when donating plasma. This process can sometimes take up to 90 minutes, but if you find a plasma donation center that’s quiet, it is possible to get it done in around an hour.

3. Drive for Uber or Lyft

Estimated hourly earnings: $14 – $21

Some people make a living driving for ride-share services like Uber and Lyft. But you don’t need to dedicate your life to either one; all it takes is one spare hour to make some dough.

Check out money expert Clark Howard‘s experience of driving for both services. Your actual earnings may vary by where, when and how often you drive.

4. Be a Personal Shopper

Estimated hourly earnings: $15 – $22

Instacart and Shipt are two leaders in grocery delivery. Basically, someone submits an order and you pull the items off the shelf and deliver them to the person’s doorstep.

Team Clark’s Dallas Cox tested the Shipt Shopper service and made an average of $24.67 per order.

5. Look for Bogus Billing Charges on Your Wireless Bill

Estimated hourly earnings: $5 – $10

Look for line items with deceptive terms such as “Premium Content” or “Direct Bill Charge” (sometimes referred to as “DBC” on your bill.)

If it’s something you didn’t agree to, call up your provider and get your money back. Here are more ways to cut your cell phone bill.

6. Try Package Delivery

Estimated hourly earnings: $8

Roadie is an on-demand delivery app that connects drivers (you, in this case) with people who need items delivered on the way to where you’re already going.

All Roadie drivers get free roadside assistance when they’re on a gig and discounts at companies like Waffle House, ZipCar and StoreX. You even receive a summary of miles driven so you can write them off for your taxes.

Watch Clark talk about Roadie in this video.

7. Be an On-Demand Secret Shopper

Estimated hourly earnings: $3 – $8

EasyShift is a free app that lets you essentially be an on-demand secret shopper. You’re assigned “shifts” by product manufacturers who want people on the ground to go into stores and confirm that their merchandise is being displayed properly.

8. Search for Unclaimed Money in Your Name

Estimated hourly earnings: Varies

This one will probably take you 15 minutes or less!

Simply go to MissingMoney.com and punch in your name to do a database search of available unclaimed funds across multiple states. (Note: Not every state participates.)

If you live in a state that doesn’t participate in this free site, there’s another option for you: Unclaimed.org. This website is a clearinghouse for the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.

9. Locate a Lost Savings Bond

Estimated hourly earnings: Varies

Maybe a grandparent bought you a savings bond when you were born and it’s been lost over the years. Here’s how you can track down lost savings bonds and get your money.

10. Stop Paying for Insurance You Don’t Need

Estimated hourly earnings: Varies

You can get insurance on almost anything — computers, phones, trips, your identity, your credit and even home warranties! But should you?

Identity theft insurance and home wiring insurance just scratch the surface of policies that aren’t worth the price.

If you’re paying for a policy on this list, call up the insurer and stop it today! That will put more money back in your pocket.

Final Thoughts

Clearly, there is no shortage of ways to make extra money. You just need to decide what makes the most sense for your life and then go for it.
