Publix premium brand ice cream is the latest domino to fall

Southeastern regional grocer Publix has announced a voluntary recall of Publix Chocolate Cookie Dough Ice Cream after being alerted by a third-party supplier to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Aspen Hills—the group that supplies cookie dough to both Publix and Blue Bell, among other companies—reportedly issued the recall on Sunday that’s prompted Publix to play it safe.

If you have a half-gallon with a UPC of 000-41415-03843 and a sell by date of May 27 at the bottom of the container, return it to the store for a full refund.

Blue Bell has another round of recalls too

Blue Bell, meanwhile, is also doing a voluntary recall of the following products in half gallons and pints: Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blue Bell Cookie Two Step sold to retail outlets and three-gallon flavors of Blue Bell Blue Monster, Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Blue Bell Krazy Kookie Dough sold to food service accounts.

Look for a date indicating that the Blue Bell products were produced from February 2, 2016 through September 7, 2016 and return them to the store for a full refund.

Because of the wide distribution of Aspen Hills’ cookie dough, the potentially contaminated ice cream has been sold in more than a dozen states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
