After receiving four reports of children slipping through the carrier leg openings, outdoors company Osprey has issued a recall involving all models of their Poco, Poco Plus and Poco Premium child backpack carriers manufactured between January 2012 and December 2014.
This is a serious recall; one child sustained a skull fracture after falling from the backpack carrier. Another child suffered scratches to the side of the head, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
These nylon child carriers were sold at specialty outdoor stores nationwide including REI. They were also available through Amazon. The general price point was between $200 and $300.
Carriers were sold in three colors — Romper Red, Koala Grey and Bouncing Blue.
Look for the following production date codes on the bottom of the pack to know if yours is involved in this recall:
While 5,732 of these carriers were sold in Canada, the lion’s share of 82,000 were sold in the United States.
If you have an affected model, stop using it and contact the company for a free Seat Pad insert that will remedy the danger.
You can reach Osprey toll-free at 866-951-5197 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday or via email at pocoseatpad@ospreypacks.com.
