If you’re trying to save money, but you still want to look your best, skip the cleaners and iron your dress shirts at home!

Think you don’t have time for that? Well, Consumer Reports says you do. And according to home editor Daniel DiClerico, you can get the job done in about four minutes by following a few easy steps.

Iron a shirt properly in just 4 minutes

  • Set iron to cotton setting and maximum steam.
  • Let the iron heat up for about two minutes before you begin.
  • Start with the collar, beginning at one end and working your way across.
  • Move to the yoke, the part of the dress shirt that sits over the shoulders, and iron straight across.
  • Open the cuffs and iron them flat.
  • As you move on to the sleeves, work down from the underarm, tugging gently on the cuff.
  • Front and back panels: Start on the front button side of the shirt, then slip the back of the shirt over the ironing board and iron in large sections.
  • End with the front placket side of the shirt, which is most visible.

According to DiClerico, wrinkle-free and no-iron dress shirts are a timesaving option as well, but the finish on the fabric reduces their lifespan by about 25%.
