This dad uses a secret code to give his kids a way out of bad situations

One father’s simple method to protect his children is quickly going viral!

On his personal blog, Bert Fulks wrote that he implemented the “X-Plan” with his kids, which gives them an easy way out of bad situations that teenagers often encounter.

X-Plan: How it can give your kids a way out

The father of three said this type of a plan could come in handy if a child has to deal with peer pressure at a party.

Fulks explained that if one of his kids sends a text with the letter “X” to a member of the family, the person who receives the text will call a few minutes later and follow a basic script.

Using his son Danny as an example, Fulks shared how the conversation would go:

Danny: “Hello?”

Dad: “Danny, something’s come up and I have to come get you right now.”

Danny: “What happened?”

Dad: “I’ll tell you when I get there.  Be ready to leave in five minutes.  I’m on my way.”

In this scenario, the “X-Plan” helps the child avoid any possible social ridicule by using the excuse that something happened at home to make a quick exit.

Fulks also made a rule to never ask his children why they sent the “X” in the first place.

“I urge you to use some form of our X-plan in your home.  If you honor it, your kids will thank you for it,” Fulks said on his blog. “You never know when something so simple could be the difference between your kid laughing with you at the dinner table or spending six months in a recovery center … or (God forbid) something far worse.”

Hundreds of people commented on Fulks’ blog post, with some wondering what happens the next day when the child has to keep up the lie about the so-called emergency.

One person responded by saying they could tell their friends, “Oh, it ended up being nothing.”
